Nov 14 Wound Care Management

This programme will allow participants to ensure professional competency in the area of wounds as per An Bord Altranais Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice for Nursing and Midwifery, which states that nurses must work within their competence. Furthermore, it will provide participants with the knowledge to ensure that their practice is founded in the latest research and guidance.

Nov 21 Incident Reporting and Investigation

This education programme will enable participants to implement an effective system of incident reporting and investigation. Participants will be shown how to complete accurate incident reports and investigations using tools such as the ‘5Whys’ and root cause analysis.The programme will also cover how to analyse incidents on a scheduled basis as part of a continuous improvement approach. Professional and legal requirements for incident reporting and investigation based on regulations and best practice guidance will also be outlined in detail.

Dec 5 Principles and Practice of Risk Management in Residential Care Settings for Older People

This one day education programme outlines the principles of risk management and how to apply them to residential care settings.The workshop encompasses requirements and guidance from the Health Information and Quality Authority as well as the ISO Australian/New Zealand international standard for risk management. Currently, as identified from inspection reports, there is a need for training in this area, specifically to ensure that risk management encompasses the need to choose the least restrictive approach for the lives of residents in the centre.

Tools for Safe Practice (free to members) This programme provides safe practice tools to protect the nurse, midwife and patient within current healthcare settings. This is an awareness session to ensure all staff have an understanding of the processes involved regarding patient alerts, clinical incidents and thorough assessment, while remaining focused on patients and individual staff. The programme addresses patient and staff safety and provides five key tools on areas of documentation, clinical incident reporting, safety statements, best practice guidelines regarding assessment and communication practices in a complex multifaceted healthcare arena.This programme is free for INMO members and € 150 for non-members. Places must be booked online in advance of your attendance.
