Care of the Older Adult – Towards Healthy Ageing This course will address the care needs of the older person across a variety of care settings and will examine presentation of illness in the older person, the ageing process and changes in cognitive behaviour and socio/psychological issues experienced by the older person and their care givers.This new study day is aimed at registered nurses and focuses on developing nurses’ competencies and understanding relating to care of the older adult, within a variety of care settings.

Mindfulness and Meditation for Holistic Nursing and Midwifery Care Mindfulness is a practice that comes fromVedic andYogic meditation and involves the ability to focus on the present moment.Traditionally mindfulness is simple self awareness. The philosophy of this course is based on the belief that nurses and midwives who practice mindfulness can bring awareness to the present moment when looking after patients and be more effective in providing holistic care. ‘Time is Brain’ – A Guide to Nursing Management, Assessment and Treatment of Acute stroke

More than 80 million strokes are reported worldwide each year, approximately 10,000 of which occur in Ireland. WHO predicts the global figure to increase by 59% by 2035. Some 116 million years of healthy life are lost worldwide to stroke-related death and disability each year, according to the European Stroke Organisation and approximately two million brain cells die each minute in which stroke is untreated.Therefore ‘Time is Brain’ and every minute counts.This new course involves knowledge and skills around stroke assessment, treatment and management for nurses during the acute phase and rehabilitation stage.
